This training course has been designed by the Queensland Dept of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) in order to accredit individuals with the skills required to control traffic with a stop/slow bat at:
• Road worksites where a road closure is necessary, or
• Other events on the road where a road closure or part road closure is necessary, or
• Other circumstances where traffic control is required on a roadway
The course provides the trainee with the knowledge and practical skills as a traffic controller to plan and prepare their work; coordinate traffic; operate two way radios and clean up their worksites.

To work as a traffic controller you will be required to possess a certain level of language, literacy and numeracy skills.

Course Duration – 1 day
We hold group classes at our premises in Palmer Street, Portsmith and are able to deliver training onsite if required.
Part A –Classroom based theory component for approximately 8 hours, consisting of theoretical and simulated practical components.
Part B – Industry placement at worksite for practical component. Trainees must complete a minimum of 20 log book hours of practical experience at a roadwork site under the direct supervision of an experienced accredited traffic controller.
This will be arranged and provided by Training Services through our approved Traffic Management Company, Traffic Services.
Participants do not get paid for this time and feedback will be provided in the form of a log book once participants have completed the theoretical component of the course. The completed log book is signed off by the supervisor and returned to Training Services for our records.
Outcome and obtaining your licence
Upon completion of this course, it is expected that participants will have acquired knowledge, skill and understanding to be able to control traffic on a road reserve using a STOP/SLOW bat in accordance with legislative requirements and guidelines.
You will need to lodge your application and fee at a Department of Transport and Main Roads customer service centre that conducts industry licensing business.
